Live-in and travel postpartum doula care brings consistent non-clinical support to the family’s home or destination for a defined period. A professional agreement should specify work hours, protected rest, private accommodations, travel expenses, meals, duties, communication and what requires additional staffing.

These arrangements can be useful when a family is recovering away from its usual support system, traveling between homes, welcoming a baby at a destination, managing a short intensive recovery period or seeking continuity from one trusted professional.

WHAT LIVE-IN CARE CAN LOOK LIKE

A live-in contract does not mean one person is working every minute of the day. The schedule may combine designated daytime support, a defined overnight shift and protected off-duty periods. The agreement should make clear whether nighttime care is resting or fully awake, where the doula sleeps, and which responsibilities belong inside paid hours.

WHAT TRAVEL CARE CAN INCLUDE

  • Daytime postpartum recovery and newborn support

  • Complete overnight shifts

  • Feeding and pumping logistics within scope

  • Baby-related laundry and organization

  • Simple nourishment and hydration

  • Detailed care notes and continuity between days and nights

  • Coordination with the family’s existing household staff or other care professionals

WHAT THE FAMILY TYPICALLY PROVIDES

Travel arrangements are customized, but they commonly address transportation, private accommodations, meals or a daily allowance, local transportation, travel-day compensation and a clearly defined work-and-rest schedule. Lodging must allow the doula to sleep privately and adequately during off-duty hours.

WHY REST AND ADDITIONAL STAFFING MATTER

No individual should provide continuous fully awake care around the clock. If a family needs 24-hour awake coverage, another qualified professional must be included. This protects the baby, the recovering parent and the care team. Live-in proximity is not the same as unlimited on-call labor.

PLANNING THE SCOPE BEFORE TRAVEL

The consultation should address the baby’s anticipated age, number of babies, feeding plan, medical guidance, household members, older children, pets, privacy expectations, location changes, travel documents, security procedures, communication and the family’s desired level of independence. Duties beyond postpartum and newborn support should be named rather than assumed.

TRAVEL DOES NOT CHANGE PROFESSIONAL BOUNDARIES

Moon Goddess Mama remains a non-clinical postpartum doula service in every location. I do not become a nurse, medical provider, therapist, chef, housekeeper or round-the-clock employee because care takes place away from Philadelphia. When a need falls outside my role, I help the family contact the appropriate local or established provider.

WHERE CARE IS AVAILABLE

Moon Goddess Mama is based in Philadelphia and serves Philadelphia, the Main Line, surrounding counties and the greater Tri-State area. Select East Coast, nationwide and international arrangements may be considered with advance planning. Availability, travel requirements and final pricing are confirmed through a customized proposal and service agreement.
